As I’ve written before I am always searching for added yards. Whether it be with unique golf tees, or other training aids my search will continue as there are so many new and unique training aids coming to marker on a regular basis. And I’ve found a new training aid that can truly help.
The product is called Speed Shaft Distance Trainer. It is a high-end shaft that you use with your current driver head, so basically you are swapping out your current driver shaft and using the Speed Shaft instead. The premise behind the Speed Shaft is the shaft is heavier than your current driver shaft, so training with a heavier shaft and then switching back to your current driver shaft will allow you to swing faster, thereby hitting loner drives.
The Speed Shaft is available is 3 flexes, Senior/Regular, Stiff, and X Stiff. The Speed Shaft Senior/Regular weighs 120 grams compared to a normal weight of 50 grams, the Stiff weighs 130 grams compared to 65 grams, and the X Stiff weight 140 compared to the average 70 grams. When you order the Speed Shaft comes with an adapter to fit your specific driver and a nice grip.
I took the Senior/Regular Speed Shaft Distance Trainer out for a test drive in my Ping G410. I average about 200 yards off the tee with my driver and my drives hit the fairway on average 75% of the time, so I’m basically a short but straight driver. I started with my current driver shaft on the range, then after about a dozen hits, I swapped it out for the Speed Shaft and hit about a dozen shots. I then repeated the process as per the website suggested practice routine 2 more times. At this point I would say I was ready to test the Speed Shaft out (it’s also a great warm up tool) and ready to hit the course.
Bottom line, after doing the warm-up routine suggested before I started 6 rounds of golf over a two week period, I averaged about 8- 10 more yards per drive and hit 80% of the fairways. The Speed Shaft definitely helped, and in my opinion is an excellent training aid and warm up tool. It also helped with my flexibility, swing timing and rhythm, and improved my overall distance and accuracy.
The company website is www.steadfastgolf.com and the cost of the Speeder Shaft Distance Trainer currently is $119.99.
