We’ve all seen PGA Pro’s pull those Little Green Golf Books out of their back pocket. I’ve always imagined having my own green book, wondering if I’d then start making more puts or stop missing the cup by 4 feet?
The day has finally come where we can all have our own Green Golf Book for our favorite courses! Golf Logix has launched their own Golf Green Books, representing over 14,000 different courses. Naturally, I just had to get one for my home course and figure out what this book was all about and learn if it could help my game.
GolfLogix’s Green Books offer several benefits; each book has a heat map showing the intensity of the slope on each green. This is a huge benefit so you’ll know which parts of the green are downhill and the severity of the slope. The next section is the “Clean View”, which displays arrows that go in many directions, showing the direction of the breaks everywhere on the green. The final section is the “Hole Layout” which shows an overhead view of the entire hole from tee to green with some nice detail on bunkers, distances and hole layout.
I took a GolfLogix Green Book to my home course. Because I play this course at least 3 times each week during the season, I think that I know the greens well. I can say that on the first several greens, my Green Book was extremely accurate in terms of direction of the break and slope. After completing all 18 holes, I must admit that there were a few times the Green Book gave inaccurate direction, specifically on the greens. My work-around was to note this in my book for next time.
As a whole, the Green Book as surprisingly accurate and helpful. The company’s website is www.GolfLogix.com and the Green Books retail for $40.00.
Overall, I really like the Green Book by Golf Logix and found it to be very helpful. I would recommend getting one for your course, and keeping a pencil handy in case you need to make a few minor adjustments.
