After noticing that Justin Rose was playing with a uniquely styled flat, green colored putter grip at a recent PGA tour event, I did my research and found that Justin’s grip was made by the Flat Cat Golf Company. Flat Cat’s grips are USGA approved, are offered in 5 assorted colors with more colors on their way soon. Realizing that all Flat Cat grips have flat sides, I decided to order their “Slim”, “Svelte”, “Pistol”, and their new ”Solution” grip.
Representing the smallest grip in the Flat Cat Golf lineup, I found the Slim grip rather thin, as compared to the other grips. However, the grip did feel really good in my hands, probably because my hands are on the smaller side. The Slim grip had a great feel, and I definitely felt as if the grip helped me line up the putter easier and with much less twisting of my hands.
Flat Cat’s Svelte grip had a similar feel as the Slim grip, although the Svelte’s sides were a bit larger. This Svelte grip felt quite comfortable and was very similar to a Super Stroke brand grip, yet the Svelte had much flatter sides, and in my opinion, a slightly smoother stroke than the other grip. I found the Svelte grip to be pretty much perfect and I really liked the stroke it put on the golf ball – my motion was very fluid while using it.
I found Fat Cat’s Pistol grip to be on the larger size of grips, and similar to the larger Super Stroke grip, although the Fat Cat Pistol grip had 2 flat sides. The Pistol grip really kept my hands as quiet at possible, allowing me to use my shoulders more and put a smooth back and forth motion into the putt. I had a very good day putting with the Pistol grip with only one three putt and several “on” putts.
The Flat Cat Solution grip proved to be an interesting grip option there was a stainless steel weight on the grip, position just below the hands. The weight created a heavier putter, yet the grip had a very nice feel o. Using the Solution grip really smoothed out my putting stroke . . . putts were going on my target line with ease and I sank more putts than usual.
To give all four grips a fair try, I randomly used them all over a 4 week period, using them for 3-4 rounds each. I honestly liked them all as each of them appeared to assist my game. If I had to pick the one that worked best for me, it would be the Flat Cat Pistol grip as it just felt the best which had the biggest impact on smoothing out my putting. The Pistol grip really helped keep my hands steady and the putter smooth, back and forth through the stroke.
The Flat Cat Golf putter grip has several good options to choose from, so I suggest finding a location that offers them and testing them in your hands for yourself. Their grips are really unique and different and I feel an excellent option worth consideration. The retail prices for the Flat Cat putter grips range from $24.99 – $49.99 and are available at their website www.flatcatgolf.com, along with many golf stores and pro shops.
