Looking For an Advanced Putter Grip?

While at the PGA show, I tested a very unique putter grip from a company called Forward Golf. . After 5 or 6 dead-straight practice putts at the show, I decided that I had to try Forward Golf’s grip on my own putter to see for myself if their grip performed in a real environment. I ordered their Mid-size putter grip from Forward Golf and it arrived on time and as promised.

Forward Golf offers grips in several sizes. Their “Original” is pretty large, their “Mid-size” is similar to a super-stroke mid-size and their “Standard” is a pistol-grip. The Original is available in black, , the Mid-size comes in both red and blue, and their Standard Pistol-grip comes in blue.

I took my Mid-size grip, along with my putter, to Dick’s Sporting Goods, where they installed if for a small fee. The installer at Dick’s showed a lot of curiosity regarding the Forward Golf grip, as he found it to be quite unique, having never seen one before. I explained to him I tried it at the PGA show and liked the feel and wanted to see how it performed on the golf course, under real conditions.

Forward Golf says this about their putter grips… “Revolutionizes the design of putter grips, placing more grip material above the shaft. This patented shape places the hands in the ideal position, uniting the arms, hands and putter and creating a balanced and consistent stroke. The unique pattern employs a raised chevron texture for unmatched traction and control”.

After the installation, it was time to test the new grip on the golf course. I first took the putter to the practice putting area for about 10 minute of putting practice, just to get a feel for the grip on the putter. ,Although I found the grip to feel a bit tacky, it did fit my hands very well. My initial impression of the grip was quite positive as it felt great in my hands – I either one or two putted all of the 1st 12 holds. . I did three putt once in the round, but that was due to a severe downhill putt that I really misjudged. Again, my overall first impression of the grip was terrific, and that feeling held over into a 2nd round the following day. I putted extremely well with a total of 30 putts. My putting performance was above average and I felt confident every time I reached the green.

I liked the putting grip so much, as soon as I got home after the second round, I went to the company website and bought another grip for my backup putter.

The company’s website is www.forwardgolfgrips.com. Their putter grips range in price from $15.99 – $24.00 and I feel are well worth the money.

The company also offers grips for irons, although I have not tried them, after using their Midsize putting grip I may buy some to test them out. I am thoroughly impressed and believe their putting grips are excellent!
