What’s the secret to better course management?
We all see the PGA Pro on television look into a book they take out of their back pocket for every shot. I wondered what’s in those books they look into. What the PGA Pro’s and their caddies do is map the course during practice rounds and record everything. Using their map books, they know where the best place to land a ball is, how far a hazard is, where a putt breaks, and many other details on each hole. With this information there really is very little guesswork as to what to do. Using their map books, the PGA Pro’s now can manage the course much more effectively.
I have never mapped any course, including my home course which I play 2-3 times a week. I thought this is something that I should look into, as I will do just about anything to shoot lower scores. After searching the world-wide web, I found the help I needed.
Track Notes, by Golf Steady. This is not a quick 30 second process, it takes time. I would suggest using the Track Notes on course(s) you play frequently. Using Track Notes will definitely give you an edge nobody else in your group has, that’s for sure. It’s all about course management, and with Track Notes, managing the course just became a whole lot easier.
Below the company explains how to use Track Notes.
FOLLOW THE STEPS: BEFORE YOU GO
1. The first thing to do is download Google Earth Pro. This app can search any golf course and has a measuring tool to give you accurate yardage.
2. Then using the mapping function you can plot where you want to drive the ball. What the best approach angle is. The hazards and obstacles you face. And then map out your game plan. Just like professionals do with their yardage books. And best of all, it’s tailored to your individual game.
3. Again, we encourage you to talk to the head pro for any other local knowledge he or she may impart. THAT’S IT!
PRACTICE ROUND: FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE
1. The best thing to do is go to the course and play a practice round. Make sure you bring your laser range finder to plot distance of obstacles.
2. Talk to the course pro. He/She will let you know if there are any local rules to follow. (Breaks towards ocean, away from mountains, etc.)
As I mentioned, this is a process that takes some time to do. You need take the time to note distances to as many locations on each hole as possible. The more notes you take, and the more distances you write down in your Track Notes on each hole, the more help it will be. I have been using Track Notes for several weeks on my home course, and I can say it has definitely helped. I keep adding a note here and there, and will continue using Track Notes as a way to manage the golf course. It works!
I play about 70+ rounds a year at my home course, and I felt this was time well spent. I’m confident that if you use Track Notes on your favorite course(s), it will also be time well spent, and will definitely lead to lower scores.
The company website is www.golfsteady.com and the Track Notes costs range from $24.95 for a pack of 5 books to $879.95 for a pack of 250 books.
